Kasongo Family
Meet the Kasongo Family. Mariamu, daughter Rahissa, and son, Joel are originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa. They came to the United States in 2015 from a refugee camp located in Malawi, Africa.
Rahissa is 16 years old and is a student in the Unit 5 school district. She enjoys swimming and music.
Joel will be 15 later this year. He likes to spend his time playing basketball and drawing.
Mariamu spends her free time decorating and cooking. She is employed as a caregiver by Help at Home in Bloomington.
When asked what it means to her family to be building a new home with Habitat, she expressed excitement to finally have a safe, stable environment for her and her family.
The Kisongo Family will be building the Bill McConnell Memorial Build duplex.
