Home Repairs

A Brush with Kindness - Home Repair Ministry

A Brush With Kindness serves as an extension of our homebuilding program, focusing on minor exterior repairs on homes of low-income families to improve house soundness and safety, restore pride and dignity, and revitalize local neighborhoods. ABWK also strengthens connections within the community and preserves affordable housing stock. As in full house builds, A Brush With Kindness families must be willing to partner with us and have the ability to pay for services.

Scope of Services

Each project will be evaluated by Habitat McLean County's Construction Staff. *Note for 2022, we are limiting the size of ABWK projects, but they might include:

  • Exterior painting
  • Landscaping
  • Porch repair
  • Siding repair
  • Soffit or fascia repair
  • Limited mobile home repair

Partner Qualifications

A Brush With Kindness is open to any homeowner in McLean County. As a Christian housing ministry, Habitat believes in offering a hand up, not a handout. For this reason, partnering families must meet the following requirements:

  1. Demonstrate a need through a property inspection and income guidelines
  2. Be willing to partner by completing “sweat equity” on their project or another Habitat initiative
  3. Must have the deed (or contract for deed) in their name and currently be living at the property
  4. Have homeowner's insurance
  5. The project must be paid off before construction begins

We are currently accepting applications for 2022 build season.

Get Involved

Churches, youth groups, businesses, organizations, and individuals can play a role in making our community more beautiful and better connected.

Your donations make house rehabilitation projects possible by covering the upfront costs. Your generosity allows a Brush With Kindness projects to remain affordable for homeowners as they invest in the future of their homes and neighborhoods.

Sponsor a Project

A Brush With Kindness sponsorships are a great opportunity to “take ownership” of an entire project! Not only can you fund the initial costs of the repair, you can also work alongside a partner family. You will feel good knowing your contributions allowed a family to live more comfortably in their home.

Please email Development Director Linda Healy for sponsorship details.
