As year-end approaches, here are two simple, tax-smart ways to support Habitat for Humanity of McLean County - helping us turn Lumber into Legacy for local families. 

1. IRA Charitable Rollover

(Qualified Charitable Distribution)

 

Who can do this?

  • Individuals 70 1/2+ can make a QCD directly from an IRA to Habitat.
  • If you're 73+, a QCD can count toward your Require Minimum Distribution and reduce taxable income.

How to make a QCD

  1. Ask your IRA administrator to issue a Qualified Charitable Distribution to Habitat for Humanity of McLean County (mail directly to our address below).
  2. Let me know it's on the way so we can confirm receipt and acknowledge your gift. 
 

2. Gift of Appreciated Stock

 

Why it's smart

  • Avoid capital gains tax on appreciated shares held >1 year
  • Potentially deduct fair market value (confirm with your advisor)
  • Preserve cash while maximizing impact

How to give stock (quick steps)

  • Ask your broker to DTC transfer shares using the instructions below (or contact me and I'll help):
