Development Director – Bloomington, Illinois         (07-28-2022)

Habitat for Humanity of McLean County is seeking a candidate with progressive managerial experience and proven marketing and development success to plan, administer, implement, and evaluate all marketing and fundraising activities for the affiliate. Specific areas of responsibility include individual and business donor campaigns, identifying and cultivating major gifts, writing grant proposals, appeal letters, newsletters, and reports, event planning and coordination, marketing, public relations, and general administrative duties within the budgetary guidelines set by the Board of Directors and under the direction of the Executive Director (ED).

This position requires a creative multi-skilled individual who excels at written and oral communication, ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively with good computer skills and knowledge of database programs.    


Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Coordinate and execute a successful, ongoing Development Plan to sustain the affiliate as measured by the current budget requirements:
    • Work directly with the ED, Board Members, staff, and the Development Committee to prepare the affiliate Development plan.
    • Work with ED, Staff and Development Committee whose mission is to guide the key fundraising efforts of the affiliate. Development Director provides on-going support for the committee, including recruiting and orienting volunteers for fundraising activities. 
    • Develop and maintain donor relationships with individuals, foundations, professional groups, large and small businesses, and Churches in McLean County. 
    • Execute planned fundraising events for the affiliate, working with identified staff members and volunteers.
    • Collaborate with Office Manager/Development Assistant to monitor fundraising efforts and results for each activity and ensure proper financial controls are in place. 
  • Serve as the Public Relations voice for the affiliate focusing on the need for affordable housing in our community and communicating the principles of the Habitat program.  Create and/or acquire marketing and other public education materials. Partner with ED on media communications for the affiliate.
  • In collaboration with Staff and the ED identify grant opportunities and develop and submit applications.
  • Manage communications (websites, social media, press releases and other written communication pieces).  Become proficient in the use of Microsoft Publisher and Photoshop.

This is a full-time salaried position. Bachelor’s degree with 2 or more years of prior experience in fundraising roles required.  Salary is commensurate with experience.
