Joan Dennis is a survivor. Coming from a long history of trauma and abuse, dating back to her childhood, Joan has always found a way to remain resilient and strong, determined to not let past experiences define her. Oliver, her giant schnauzer, provides her with valuable emotional support, and has been her constant companion for several years. Joan’s perseverance and resilience throughout the many challenges, struggles and traumas she has faced is a testament to her drive and determination to work towards improving life, both hers and the lives of others.
As a long-term resident of Bloomington, and someone who knows first-hand how important it is for people in need to have access to safe and secure accommodation, Joan has a deep belief in the Westside revitalization project and in Habitat for Humanity’s mission. She enjoys spending time at the restorations, working alongside other Habitat partner families and helping build their homes, and she embraces the opportunity of building her own home to provide a better future.
Joan presently works with Connect Transit as a Dispatcher. She’ll be sharing her property with her dog, Oliver.
